TAKE A WALK

The Sunshine Coast Botanical Garden is a 16-hectare property that has several kilometres of flat walking paths.  The entrance to the Garden leads through the Alleyne and Barbara Rhododendron Walk featuring an extensive rhododendron collection in a woodland setting.

The path then leads to our Native Plant Garden featuring four distinct habitats (Mountainside, Rainforest, Garry Oak Meadow, and Pond/Wetland).  Be sure to visit the Emily Lasuta Learning Centre and the Welch Family Viewing Platform.

Following the fence line at the edge of the ravine, you’ll pass the future home of our Cascadia Garden.  Keep going to the Oak and Maple Meadow which features spectacular fall colour from late September to leaf drop.  Look towards the ravine for some excellent Bigleaf Maple specimens.

You can choose one of several intimate pathways or the wider service road to return to the front of the property.  Here you will find our volunteer-tended Vegetable Garden and our plant nursery.  Produce from the Vegetable Garden is donated to the Sechelt Food Bank. The Seniors Accessible Garden demonstrates a number of ways to garden with mobility challenges.  The Plant Sale area is only open on scheduled days in the spring and summer; check Upcoming Events for the next scheduled Plant Sale.

Returning to the parking lot, stop in our Picnic & Play area.  This is a wonderful area for kids to romp and explore, and the Willow Tunnel is always a hit with the younger crowd. Bring your picnic along and stay a while.

The Pavilion is home to our staff office, washrooms, and is where many of our programs are held.  It is also a beautiful rentable space for gatherings of all kinds.  Ask staff for details if you are looking for a space for celebrations or meetings, for membership, or have other enquiries.

Enjoy your visit!

MISSION, VISION, GOALS

Mission

To create and maintain a Pacific Northwest botanical garden that inspires and engages the community in plant appreciation and acts as a catalyst for learning and research about horticulture, conservation, and land stewardship.

Vision 2020 – 2025

By 2025 the Sunshine Coast Botanical Garden (the Garden) will be a place for visitors to appreciate plants and raise awareness of the value of a botanical garden as a place to reflect and connect with nature.  The Garden will protect and preserve vulnerable plants and ecosystems and work to mitigate the impact of climate change on plants and their habitats.

Values for our organization

We will conduct ourselves with honesty, respect, accountability, integrity and be true to our mission.

We will develop the garden with respect for the history of this land.

We foster a relationship between the land, people and nature.

We value accessibility so we will ensure our garden is a safe, welcoming and informative place for learning about ecology and habitat.

We value education and use best practices in operations through interpretation, programing and demonstrations.

We will be responsible to science and the need for climate adaptation.

We have pride in our story and aim for excellence in acting on our vision.

We will be true to the regional nature of the garden with native plants and selection of those that grow well here.

We respect the contributions of our community and will be responsible to their trust.
